Under the supervision of the building Administrator and Equity & Access Supervisor, the CCR Teacher Specialist will spend approximately 50% of their contract time teaching, co-teaching, and presenting,  college-career-readiness courses and lessons to GEAR UP Ogden (GUO) students and their families. CCR Teacher Specialists will spend approximately 40% of their time monitoring and executing the GUO grant activities; and collaborating with school staff and community partners to ensure GUO grant objectives are met. In addition, 10% of their time will be spent documenting student data and matching funds. They will collaborate with counselors, CTE and STEM teams to assist students in following a college-career pathway. It is expected that the CCR Teacher Specialist will ensure integration of school and district goals to maximize services for students and their families. They are expected to participate in professional development to become experts in the college and career readiness field.  

Responsibilities:

  • Implement the goals and objectives of the GUO grant at assigned site  
  • Have a deep understanding of the project’s objectives and college readiness goals
  • Implement the GEAR UP activities, strategies, and programs
  • Collect and document program data
    • College Prep testing
    • College data, Data entry, Deep-well data
    • Case Management data
    • School Match
  • Complete required reports
  • Attend GEAR UP conferences, AVID Summer Institute, and participate in other College-Career-Readiness professional development
  • Market student progress and college readiness
    • Guest speakers
    • Family Nights, PTC, other events
  • Collaborate
    • with WSU GEAR UP Ogden Director to plan and achieve project goals
    • with GUO partners to plan appropriate activities in the community
    • with building staff to plan and achieve project goals
    • with families to achieve project goals
  • Willingness to teach college preparation courses such as AVID, Latinos in Action, Financial preparation for college, and Advisory courses
  • Supervise, schedule and train GUO tutors
  • Assist with college readiness assessments
  • Participate in all faculty required activities on school and district levels
    • Faculty meetings
    • Professional Learning Communities
    • AVID Site Team
  • Follow GUO students through their high school graduation and possibly work part-time through their 1st year of college

Required Qualifications:

  • Secondary teaching license
  • Self-directed, organized, and motivated
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
  • Flexible schedule—able to supervise after-school activities and summer camps
  • AVID Certified (or willing to obtain certification)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Spanish speaking
  • Experience working with the GEARUP grants (K-12)
  • Experience/Background working with community partners
  • Experience mentoring/counseling/advising youth
